Attachment Style Quiz: What Is My Attachment Style?

Sixteen honest questions about how you handle closeness, worry, and trust, with an instant read on your attachment style.

No sign-up. No email. Your answers stay on your device.

This quiz looks at how you connect in close relationships and where that places you among four attachment styles. It's built on the two dimensions that researchers actually study, so you get a clear read instead of a vague label. You'll see your result the moment you finish, no email required.

What this quiz looks at

Attachment research maps how we bond in close relationships onto two dimensions. The first is attachment anxiety, or how much you fear being abandoned and look for reassurance. The second is attachment avoidance, or how much closeness makes you uneasy and pushes you toward self-reliance. Where you fall on each one places you in one of four styles: secure, anxious-preoccupied, dismissive-avoidant, and fearful-avoidant. This two-dimension model grew out of work by psychologists like Hazan, Shaver, and Bartholomew, building on the classic attachment theory of Bowlby and Ainsworth. In large US samples, roughly 60 percent of adults come out secure. Attachment style is not fixed, though, and it can shift over time as your relationships and circumstances change. Treat this as a mirror for self-reflection, not a diagnosis.

Attachment Anxiety
How much you fear being abandoned and look for reassurance from the people you love.

Good questions

People often ask

What are the four attachment styles?+

Most models name four: secure, anxious-preoccupied, dismissive-avoidant, and fearful-avoidant. They come from two underlying dimensions, how much you fear abandonment (anxiety) and how uneasy closeness makes you (avoidance). Where you land on each one places you in one of the four.

Can my attachment style change?+

Yes, it can. Attachment style is a pattern rather than a fixed trait, and it can shift with new relationships, personal growth, and time. Plenty of people move toward secure as their lives and self-understanding change.

Is this quiz a diagnosis?+

No. This is a self-reflection tool, not a clinical or diagnostic assessment. If something about how you relate to others is weighing on you, a licensed therapist can help far more than any quiz.

How long does the attachment style quiz take?+

About five minutes. There are 16 short questions, one screen at a time, and your result appears the moment you answer the last one.

Do you store my answers?+

No. Everything is scored right in your browser. Your answers stay on your device and are never sent to a server.

This quiz is for self-reflection and curiosity, not clinical assessment. Treat your result as a mirror to think with, not a label or a diagnosis.
